On the evening of Thursday October 22 Paolo Fresu made his entrance in the Jermann winery in Ruttars. It was immediate magic: beautiful music drifting softly through the cradle of our wines.
The concert, part of the 2015 edition of “Jazz & Wine of Peace” festival, was performed in front of a enthusiastic audience from Italy, Slovenia, Austria and Croatia.
The air, still dense with the aromas of the harvest thanks to Fresu and the musical dialogue his trumpet has with the “Devil Quartet” turns light, and the atmosphere becomes Mediterranean. A sophisticated ensemble of four exceptional musicians with 25 years of playing jazz, that magically fill the silent spaces of the winery nestled in the Collio hills: Paolo Fresu playing the trumpet, Bebo Ferra guitare, Luca Bulgarelli double bass and Stefano Bagnoli at the drums.
The story of Paolo Fresu is well known. As many great musicians he glided through his musical career. Since he was a child, he played the trumpet in the village band and practiced at home in the Sardenian countryside, an archaic corner of the Mediterranean, where perhaps the breeze in the olive groves can become an inspiring muse. It is from this remote corner of the world that his musical career took off, thanks also to his innate creativity, an absolute vocation, and an exceptional curious sensitivity to all that surrounds him. A great blend of humanity and professionalism that allows him to fuse the archaic nature of Sardenia with the most contemporary sound of jazz, creating an intense an emotional dialogue between the two. And Fresu’s trumpet has a sound that is well recognizable though changing and evolving.
