LONSBLAU

Already since years we have been talking about making a selection of Pinot nero.

The proper chance came with a newly acquired vineyard of 3 hectares facing westward, planted 10 years earlier, located on the left bank of the river Judrio, which flows from North to South.

At the centre of the label it is pictured the apse of a small church situated near the vineyard, frescoed with several blue flowers by Giacomo Meneghini also called ‘Jacum Pitòr’.  

These are the words written at the two sides:

 

‘To the memory of a nice day spent on the hills looking for blue violets’

‘Tired, at the evening, we devoted a prayer to the Pope, who looked similar to grandfather Angelo

Saturday 02 04 2005’.

Both sentences were extracted from a 6 pages story about the day spent with my children AlojzFelix and Sylvia Tunina, looking for blue violets in order to detect a plot of land suitable for planting Blauburgunger grape.

It had been a very special day, we were at the top of the hill just two days before bulldozers would start the land preparation work, and that very evening Pope John Paul II passed away. For this reason on the left side of the label you see Karol Wojtyła’s papal emblem, whom we had always found looking very similar to grandfather Angelo.

I personally like this label very much for its religious subject and for all its colours and shades, which are very typical for Pinot nero.

The name Lonsblau comes from ‘Lons’, the name I have given to the vineyard, and ‘Blau’ for the colour of the blue violets and as reference to the Blauburgunder grape.

 

We have produced 3.469 bottles of 0,75 lt and 200 magnum bottles vintage 2015.
