RUTTARS

A winery that combines innovation
and tradition

The new winery features the most advanced technology that is skillfully integrated in the most traditional architecture. The great oak barrels create a magical atmosphere. The same material that was used 50 years ago, as well as the same passion for wine making that has been passed down through generations.
Inaugurated on 07.07.07, the Jermann Winery is nestled in the heart of Dolegna del Collio (GO), and is surrounded by over 20 hectares of well appointed vineyards. It was specifically designed for the vinification of Capo Martino and Vignatruss – whose vineyards are located right behind the winery – as well as of Where Dreams and Vintage Tunina, the wine that more than any other determined the success of Jermann Wineries.
The soil on which the vines grow is lightweight and fresh. The temperatures are never too hot during the day, and the very cool nights preserve the aromas of the grapes to be released in the wine.

Terroir Collio:
Ruttars Estate

Geographically, Collio belongs to the most northeastern region of the Italian peninsula,
located at around 60 miles from Venice.

It is a hilly strip of land covering around 57.6 square miles, and wedged between the
Julian Alps and the Adriatic Sea. It is delimited to the west and south by the Judrio and
Isonzo rivers, and to the east by Slovenia (2/3 of the Collio special soil is to be found in
Slovenia, where its name is Brda). Collio is a verdant land enjoying a mild climate thanks to the nearby Adriatic Sea and the sheltering influence of the Pre-Julian Alps.

It benefits from cool winds hailing from central Europe and warm air currents from the Adriatic, enabling the grapes to stay dry and healthy. Water erosion 100 million years ago gave rise to the characteristic soil type of Collio called Ponca, highly stratified and rich in marl and sandstone, and ideal for quality viticulture.

Certified sustainability:
Jermann’s respect for the environment.

Designed in 1999 and inaugurated in 2007, the Jermann winery in Ruttars immediately achieved a CasaClimaWine pre-certification which soon converted into a full certification, attracting the attention of the press and eminent professionals of the sector.

Indeed, this important certification is only awarded to the wineries that are designed to truly be sustainable. The path that was undertaken to achieve the certification led Jermann to become a “poineer” of such innovative vision from the design to the engineering and building of the whole complex. Innovative vision that still continues to evolve and improve in terms of sustainability: paying attention to the people (human resources), paying attention to the naturalness of the product (Jermann wines and Jermann BJO organic products), and safeguarding the territory.

The CasaClimaWine certification protocol applies to newly constructed wineries and entails a number or complex controls and tests carried out over the course of time and is identifiable by the logo KlimaHaus/CasaClimaWine.
